Fans to be rewarded at Sakaja Cup tourney
The Sakaja Super Cup football tournament action will liven up Nairobi football grounds with round one matches scheduled to kick off on October 7, 2023.
Sakaja Super Cup tournament director Osman Khalif has called on fans to turn up in their numbers to cheer their favourite teams in the tournament which is aimed at uniting the capital and exposing talents.
Speaking ahead of the weekend action, Osman said; “This is a tournament that will unite all youths in Nairobi and I want to urge fans to turn up in large numbers and support their teams without violence or hooliganism.”

Osman noted that the tournament, as announced by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, will reward the most vibrant fan base and called on fans across the city to take advantage of the opportunity and edge close to their reward.
“Remember during the official launch, governor Sakaja said that the best fan base will be rewarded with Sh300,000. This is the chance, come out and support your teams and remember football is all about love, peace, and uniting people not acts of hooliganism or beating up of referees,” Osman said.
Osman sensitized fans to turn up in different fields this coming weekend asking them to show love to the players who have earned a place in the Sakaja Super Cup tournament and observe peace as the best teams battle it out for the 3 million cash prize on the tournament.
145 matches are on the card this weekend as the action kicks off following last weekend’s curtain raisers.
A total of 340 teams, and thousands of youths, drawn from all the 17 sub-counties in Nairobi will take part in the tournament, set to culminate with the grand finale on December 16th, 2023.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has pledged support for the youth engaging in sports noting that the Sakaja Foundation, which is organizing the three-month tournament will offer support to football players in the county beginning to help them make careers out of their talent.
“As Governor Sakaja told us during the launch of this tournament, Sports has the ability to unite people so let us use this tournament to bring back the spirit of Nairobi where we have no tribal lines. This Super Cup is for all Nairobians,” Osman said.
Teams have been polled by sub-county from where the group winners will advance to the knockout stages meaning that teams from the same sub-county will not meet in the knockouts.
The winning teams in this six-week competition will be awarded Sh1 million, Sh500,000 and Sh250,000 respectively.
