Federation of Kenya Employers unveils Employer of the Year Awards 2023


The Federation of Kenya Employers, FKE has announced the launch of the 2023 edition of the Employer of the Year Awards (EYA). 

The Employer of the Year Awards (EYA) is an initiative by the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) that is geared towards promoting and encouraging best practices in Corporate Performance, People Management, and Industrial Relations practices amongst employers in Kenya. The Awards have been “Honoring Best Employers” since 2017. 

The awards have this year enhanced the criteria of the evaluation in line with global workplace standards and is expected to witness increased participation to accommodate both big and small enterprises.  

The coveted Employer of the Year Award is in its fourth year since it was launched in 2017 and has since grown in stature and profile with increased participation from SMEs, drawing from all sectors.

“The Employer of the Year Awards whose tagline is “Honoring Best  Employers”, is FKE’s prestigious flagship event that aims to showcase and  reward employers’ best practices and innovations in the areas of Corporate  Performance, People Management, and Industrial Relations practices amongst  employers in Kenya. Our goal is to raise and sustain productivity, enterprise  performance, and responsibility,” said Ms Jacqueline Mugo, Executive Director and CEO, FKE during the launch.  

“Industrial Relations in organizations constitute major concerns in today’s business. Good industrial relations result in increased efficiency and prosperity, reduced turnover, and other tangible benefits to the organization.  We encourage members, to participate in the 2023 Employer of the Year  Awards by submitting their assessment, showcasing their best practices and innovations at the workplace,” she added. 

The Employer of the Year Awards focus on voluntary disclosure of relevant information that give a view of an organization’s workplace practices. The award continues to embed a strong industrial relations culture in Kenya for enhanced industrial harmony.

“Promoting  Corporate Performance, People Management, and Industrial Relations practices amongst employers in Kenya is key in ensuring our businesses remain robust as we profile Kenya as the preeminent destination for investment,” Ms Mugo said.

“Our championing of the Employer of the Year Award  underscores our commitment to encourage excellence in industrial relations and this is in a bid to raise and sustain Corporate Performance, People Management, and Industrial Relations regionally, which is important for  business sustainability and growth of our economies,” she added.

Mr Michael Macharia, who was also present at the launch, urged employers to participate in the award.

“The Employer of the Year award is a perfect opportunity for you to define who  you are as an employer,” he said.

The 2023 Employer of the Year Awards has 8 categories namely:

  2. Corporate Performance  
  3. Innovations and Productivity 
  4. Responsible Business Conduct  
  5. Inclusiveness and Diversity 
  6. Work-Place Environment  
  7. Learning and Development  
  8. Human Resource Practice and Industrial Relations 

The deadline for submission of entries is June 16, 2023.
