Former Migori deputy Governor Nelson Mahanga Mwita is dead

Former Migori County Deputy Governor Nelson Mahanga Mwita has passed away at aged 64.

His family confirmed that the politician breathed his last at MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi on September 9, 2023,  following a period of illness.

Mahanga, also a dedicated public servant, had a distinguished career that spanned two terms as the Deputy Governor of Migori County, from 2013 to 2022, serving alongside ex-Governor Okoth Obado.

The news of his passing sent ripples of sorrow throughout Migori County and beyond, with many remembering Mahanga for his unwavering commitment to public service.

Current Migori County Governor Ochillo Ayako expressed his condolences and paid tribute to Mahanga in a statement posted on Facebook. Ayako acknowledged Mahanga’s devotion to leadership and his relentless efforts to improve the lives of the people of Migori.

“With great commiseration, we register our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and the people of Migori for having lost such a useful leader,” Governor Ayako stated.

Family and close friends have gathered at Mahanga’s residence in Riruta Satellite, Nairobi, to mourn his passing.

They have shared that his body has been transferred to the Lee Funeral Home as preparations for his final farewell are made.

Nelson Mahanga Mwita’s legacy in Migori County will be remembered for his contributions to its development and his dedication to public service.
