Former President Uhuru Kenyatta calls for unity and sharing this festive season
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kenyans to unite and serve God by coming together in the spirit of humanity as they celebrate Christmas day.
Reflecting on the lessons of Christmas, he emphasised the importance of sharing blessings to ensure that no one in the nation goes hungry.
“Fellow Kenyans, as citizens of this great nation called Kenya, we ought to take to heart the lesson of Christmas,” said Uhuru during his Christmas address. “Let us share the little or much that God has blessed us with to ensure none amongst us goes hungry.”
Acknowledging the diversity of Kenya, with its multitude of faiths, tribes, and people from various backgrounds, the former Head of State encouraged citizens to recognize this diversity as a strength.
“It is this recognition that should give us the impetus to pull our strengths together and strive to make Kenya even better,” he stated.
He noted the importance of responsibility during the festive season, particularly among road users.
“Let us all be responsible during this festive season more so on our roads. ‘Better arrive late than never’ and be mindful of other road users,” urged Uhuru.
Uhuru, along with his family, celebrated an early Christmas by sharing joy with children from various homes.
On Saturday, they visited Gatundu Children’s Home, Mama Ngina Children’s Home, Mama Fatuma Children’s Home, St Dorcas Educational Centre, and Mary Faith Rescue Centre.
Interacting with the children and spreading Christmas cheer, the former President expressed:
“Once again, Christmas is here; a time to remember and apply our shared values of compassion, sharing, and communion. We share this holiday with all people of all persuasions because what we celebrate are cherished universal human impulses.”
The festivities extended beyond the children’s homes as Uhuru also made a generous Christmas donation of Sh1 million to a Jesus Compassion ministries Church in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
“Let the holidays bring us closer to each other so that collectively, we can lighten our burden and brighten our journey. Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year!”
