Gubernatorial aspirant promises business boom to sex workers if elected

A Kisumu gubernatorial aspirant has caused a stir after he promised sex workers  booming business if elected in August.

Dr Hezron McObewa, who is seeking to unseat incumbent Jack Ranguma, said he will host international conferences that will attract visitors who will pay the twilight ladies “international rates”.

He was speaking during a meeting with about 300 sex workers at the Goan Institute in Kisumu.

BRING CLIENTS

“These people pay well when they visit foreign countries and your counterparts in those countries make up to Sh200, 000 a night. It is these big conferences that brings clients who will cough out good money for you people,” said Dr McObewa.

He added: “When they come, they will pay you international rates like they are accustomed to in other countries. You will be surprised.”

In one of the rarest meetings, Dr Macobewa said he would push for the establishment of an international conference centre in Kisumu which will attract events to the lakeside city.

BUSINESS VIABLE

“Your business is viable when men have money in their pocket and that is why we must create for them employment,” said Dr Macobewa.

He accused Governor Ranguma of being insensitive to the needs of members of Kisumu Sex Workers Sacco.

Others in the race to unseat Mr Ranguma are Kisumu Senator Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o, deputy governor Ruth Odinga, architect Chris Ondiek, Kisumu county Jubilee party chairperson Atieno Otieno, Professor Gordon Wayumba, Mr Owino Omollo, former staff of the National Assembly and Mr Asaka Nyangara, a senior expatriate who works for the United Nation’s World Food Program in Philippines.
