Kenya sevens team clinch Shield in London

The national sevens rugby team ended the 2016 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series on a high by beating Russia 31-7 in the Shield final.

Leading try scorer in the series, Collins Injera, scored two tries to take his tally to 235. Nelson Oyoo also scored a brace with Willy Ambaka adding one more in a dominant display by the Kenyan team.

Team captain Andrew Amonde lauded his teammates for their performance in London as the 2016 season concludes.

IMPORTANT PLAYER

“It’s a good feeling to end the season like this considering that we started the season slowly. We will now have time to think about our future,” Amonde said.

He also paid glowing tribute to Injera for his historic achievement.

“Its important to have a player like in Injera in very team. He is very talented and a big motivation to the rest of the team,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Kenya lost 21-19 to Wales in the Bowl quarter finals to drop to the Shield semis where they hardly broke sweat with a 38-5 win over Brazil.
