KOT question authorities tole following Shakahola religious cult deaths
Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) have questioned the government’s ability to protect its citizens in the wake of an incident where graves of people who are believed to have died while fasting in a cult linked to preacher Paul Mackenzie were unearthed at the Coast.
As of April 22, 2023, 10 bodies were dug at Shakahalo in Kilifi bringing the total bodies found so far to 17 on the second day of exhumation.
Nairobi Member of County Assembly Robert Alai who is also a blogger says the government’s security agencies should explain these deaths.
How did one fellow lure hundreds of faithful into a suicide mission without our security structure noticing? Or the security of this country is just to monitor Raila and Alai?” Alai, also a controversial blogger posed.
On the other hand, other Twitter users cautioned Kenyans against looking for ‘cheap or fast’ miracles.
Letting someone get to the point of brainwashing you is just a clear sign of weakness. Stop looking for silly miracles black people. These pastors of doom will finish you. Go for prayers and once these Papa's start introducing things you've never been exposed to, RUN!

At the beginning of the exercise, the authorities had a total of 32 sites to dig up. By the close of the operation on Friday, April 21, 2023, they still had more than 20 left.
The Malindi sect leader has been in the limelight for allegedly influencing his followers to fast to death.
The preacher was arrested on April 15, 2023, and has been in police custody after a Malindi High Court denied him release on bond.
The Lango Baya police station which is responsible for the security of the residents of the Shakahola area is located 50 kilometers away.
