Late Bomet Governor Lorna Laboso’s son Marco shares his experience with phone hackers

Marco Laboso, son of former Bomet Governor Lorna Laboso (now deceased), has publicly addressing a distressing incident he recently encountered.

He says his phone was hacked on August 5, 2023, with a clear intent to commit fraud.

He also addressed the dangers of phone hacking.

In his open letter, Marco, who is the President of the Kenya Private University Students Union, describes the incident with transparency, stating,

“I am writing to inform the public that on the 5th of August 2023, I had my phone hacked with intent to commit fraud.”

The hackers skillfully impersonated him, taking advantage of his identity to send messages to his contact list, soliciting money with deceitful motives.

The message read, “Morning, could you be in a position to lend me 20k I refund in 2hrs? My m-banking is currently under maintenance.”

Aware of the potential victims, Marco Laboso promptly acted to mitigate the situation.

“It is my belief that a few of my contacts fell victim to this fraud, but for the majority, I was able to remedy the situation by promptly informing them of the fraud,” he stated.

He further reported the incident to the Kilimani Police Station under OB 41/07/08/2023, initiating an investigation. He also alerted other relevant authorities to help address the situation.

He shared his proactive measures in response to the incident.

“I have also taken steps to protect my phone from future hacking attempts. I have changed my passwords, enabled two-factor authentication, and installed several security software,” he noted.

Expressing his gratitude for the swift actions of the authorities, Marco hopes for a resolution to the case.

“I am grateful to the authorities for their swift action in investigating this matter. I hope that they will be able to apprehend the hackers and bring them to justice,” he expressed.

In conclusion, Marco Laboso extended his appreciation to those who reached out to him with support.

“I would also like to thank the people who have reached out to me to offer their support. I am grateful for your concern, and I appreciate your help in spreading the word about this important issue,” he acknowledged.
