Lenana Kariba: Kenyan ladies were disappointed when I married a Mzungu – Exclusive

Renowned actor Lenana Kariba recently shared insights into his married life and the intriguing dynamics of his direct messages (DMs) years after tying the knot.

In an exclusive interview with Nairobi News, the ‘Single Kiasi’ actor disclosed that despite his marital status, his DMs still receive considerable attention, with many expressing disbelief that he found love outside Kenya.

Kariba, who is married to a Caucasian woman named Hellen, revealed that their union surprised many, especially within Kenyan circles.

The couple exchanged vows on August 11, 2021, at the Pineapple Beach Club in the Caribbean Islands of Antigua, marking a significant milestone in their relationship.

Reflecting on the reactions he received, Kariba expressed amusement at the varied responses, acknowledging the mix of genuine affection and curious inquiries.

“My DM before and after I got married hasn’t changed so much. Some people can be crazy. Sometimes I am left wondering if they are serious or if they are just showing love. I have gotten a lot of heat for not marrying a Kenyan woman,” he said.

Kariba shared that his wife was initially taken aback by the reactions from Kenyans but eventually found entertainment in the comments and messages they received.

“My wife expected people to react in a certain way but she was surprised how people reacted to the fact that I was married to an English girl. She read all the DMs and it was quite entertaining. She enjoys that side of our love,” he added with a smile.

Explaining the absence of traditional wedding attendees, Kariba revealed that he and Hellen opted for an intimate ceremony due to the uncertainties brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We got to the stage where we realized life was too short to keep waiting for everything happening in the world to pass…so we found somewhere beautiful and went alone,” he said.

Kariba emphasized that their wedding was a personal decision, stating, “No, it was just us alone.”
