Man confesses to beating wife ‘after she had abortion’

A man who pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife and sister-in-law told an Eldoret court he had injured his wife out of anger after she procured abortion.

The man told Eldoret Principal Magistrate Nancy Barasa he became angry when he realized his wife conspired with her sister to terminate his pregnancy and secretly bury the feutus.

Edwin Barasa told the court he is an orphan and needs to have many children in order to sustain his offspring but he was angry with his wife for reducing his family population through abortion.

“Yes, I admit that the charge but my act was informed by my wife’s behavior to abort and deny me another child,I need many children,” he told the court while shedding tears.

The court was told that on September 15, 2023, in Kisumu Ndogo area, Langas estate in Eldoret, he assaulted Mary Kwamboka and caused her permanent injuries.

He told the court that he was in a lot of pain due to his wife’s decision to abort.

Mr Barasa told the court he was ready to show the police the place where the fetus was buried by the complainant.

The court ordered the probation officers to interview him before bringing the detention report to the court.

The case will be mentioned on October 3, 2023.
