Man suspected of beheading girl lynched
A man was lynched by a mob on Tuesday evening moments after he beheaded a girl in Gwa-Kung’u area, Nyandarua County.
This was the fifth girl to be killed this year and the second killing of a girl child in the area in less than one week.
In the Tuesday’s incident, 25 year-old Amos Maina Nderitu from Manyatta location in the neighboring Laikipia County, entered a home where several children were alone and attacked the girl. The rest of the children started screaming for help.
“The child’s aunt who heard the children screaming met the man leaving the house with blood all over his clothes and mouth. When she entered the house she found the girl’s head severed from the body. She raised an alarm and people who responded to the distress managed to hold him,” said Nyandarua North OCPD Morris Asillah.
The police boss said the mob lynched the assailant after he attempted to flee and set his body a blaze.
The killing came just a few hours after the Nyandarua North sub county security team held a long meeting trying to unravel the killing of the first child on Thursday last week.
THE MOTIVE
“We held a lengthy meeting trying to stitch together the possible cause of the killing of the first child. We now hope the lynching of this man has solved the mystery surrounding the killings”, Mr Assilah said.
He noted that the description of the person who had been seen with the victim in the first incident fitted the lynched man.
The police boss appealed to members of the public to report any suspicious characters in their neighborhoods adding that Nderitu’s family also described him as a lone ranger.
“His family also describes him as a lone ranger. We are yet to know the motive behind the killings as he has killed four girls by chopping off their heads, some after defiling them”, said Mr Assilah.
The area around Ndaragwa Sub County has had several mysterious killings that have caused fear among residents.
The residents have held demonstration on several occasions to protest against the insecurity facing them.
A standard three pupil is also nursing serious injuries at the Nyahururu district hospital after he was sodomized by a 30 year old farm hand in the same area early last week.
The remains of the man and the body of the girl have been moved to Nyahururu County Hospital mortuary.
