Mass exodus looms at Gor Mahia

Ten first-team players are on the verge of quitting Gor Mahia, in a move that will present a crisis of sorts at the giant Kenyan club, Nairobi News has established.

The league holders, who are winless in the last seven Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League outings, are in a crisis of sorts, with midfielder Kenneth Muguna and defender Charles Momanyi recently dumping the club for Tanzanian moneybags Azam and Tusker FC respectively.

“I can confidently tell you about 10 of my teammates are in negotiations with other teams. Their focus is elsewhere,” explained a player who spoke off the record.

“Everybody is pressing the exit button in this club.”

The player reiterated morale within the playing staff is low after reportedly for four months without salary.

“We have been given endless promises on settling our dues. If getting water during training sessions is a problem, how sure are you that we will be paid our money?” he posed.

With six matches to the end of the season, Gor is in the eighth position on the 17-team league standings.

These average returns on the pitch and looming exodus has placed pressure and focus on long-serving club chairman Ambrose Rachier and team manager Jolawi Obondoi with the team also preparing to represent the country in the Caf Confederation Cup in the 2021/2022 season.

Besides the looming exits, Gor have been banned from signing players by Fifa owing to monies owed to former players and coaches at the club.
