Medic charged with drugging, raping schoolgirl

A clinical officer was on Thursday charged in a Murang’a court with sedating and raping a 17-year-old girl.

Mr Douglas Mbutti allegedly sexually abused the class eight pupil at his private clinic, Mugoiri Medical Centre, in Kahuro Sub-County.

The girl is now four months pregnant.

He pleaded not guilty to four counts before Principal Magistrate Antony Mwicigi.

He was ordered released on a Sh300,000 bond with a surety of the same amount.

Mr Mbutti, who is also the chief anaesthetist at Muriranjas Level 4 Hospital, is accused of defiling the girl on April 12 and May 14, 2015 when she went to seek medical attention at his medical centre.

He is further accused of committing an indecent act on the girl.

The court heard that Mr Mbutti, who was not represented, first sedated the girl on the said dates before raping her.

On the first occasion, he is alleged to have taken her to the examination room for some tests and asked her to lie on the patients’ bed, saying she needed an injection.

After the injection, the court heard, she became unconscious and when she woke up, the clinical officer told her she had been treated and would be fine.

He is then said to have told her to return for a check-up after a month.

She told the court she did not suspect anything at the time and went home.

On May 14, she returned for the check-up and again he took her to the examination room and injected her.

This time, the court was told, when she regained consciousness she saw the doctor putting on his clothes, raising her suspicions.

The case will be mentioned next Friday and hearing is on October 12.
