Simultaneously, residents in Dandora and Embakasi voiced concerns about a surge in criminal activities during a national blackout experienced on the same night.
The blackout, attributed to the electric provider Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), left the country in darkness for hours.
Reports indicate that suspected muggers took advantage of the blackout, terrorising residents and pilfering valuable items.
Peter Nyabuto recounted being accosted by three muggers who made away with his belongings as he navigated the darkened streets.
“I live in Lucky Summer area but had decided to visit a friend in Embakassi, only for the blackout to find me there. As I was walking to the bus terminus to board a matatu, I was accosted by the three,” he explained.
Despite the terrifying encounter, Nyabuto emerged physically unharmed.
Another resident, James Kimani of Dandora, reported hearing distress calls as people sought help amid the blackout-induced chaos.
“Immediately after the blackout hit the country, a number of people were heard screaming around where I live as they called for help,” he recounted.
