Missed out on Christmas festivities? Here’s how you can make up for it
Animals were slaughtered and either barbequed, stewed or fried.
Salads were made and ignored by the eating masses, large batches of various foods were laid out buffet style and merry making was undertaken.
Christmas day was a day to spend time with family catching up over all topics under the sun, downed with drinks from water to brandies. It was a good day for many.
However, for some, Christmas came and went without any merry making.
They were either working, avoiding toxic family, not invited to a festive party or simply, did not have the finances and time to host a Christmas get together.
If you fell in either of these categories, and still hope to partake in the festive mood, here’s how you can make up for missing out on Christmas day festivities:
- If you now have some finances and the time- and have some family and friends ready to come over, you can host a post-Christmas day party. You can all enjoy meals, drinks and each others’ company, and still get to exchange some gifts if this was a part of your plan.
- If still alone post-Christmas, use this time to go on a holiday-themed trip. Go where the Christmas mood is on level 100, join in or people watch. Have great food and visit tourist attractions where you know people will still be in a celebratory mood. Create new Christmas memories for yourself at this time- this can even become an annual trip for you.
- If it wasn’t festive for you, try and make it festive for the less fortunate in society if the Christmas spirit and mood is still running through your veins. At this time, you can visit a children’s or elders’ homes, donate whatever little you have and spend time with the kids and elders. In most instance, what most of them need is great company to take their minds off daily routine. Do make sure to bring them the joy of Christmas.
- Create new Christmas traditions including hosting a hybrid movie marathon for your close family and friends on the night of Christmas. You get to connect with them as they all also get to rest from a long day of socializing. During this time, you can have games, drinks and bonding time before sleep becomes too much to ward off.
- If you are not the type to enjoy company, you can chose to tailor make Christmas day and 26th to your preference. You can prepare your favorite meal, decorate your home in Christmas colors and décor, buy yourself gifts and do what makes you happy without breaking the bank. Think of it as self care, a time just for you to disappear from everyone else and put yourself first.
