Morocco seek to strengthen African bilateral ties at youth conference


Morocco’s Youth, Culture, and Communication Minister Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid has reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with African countries in a bid to foster the emergence of the youth.

He spoke on May 9, 2023, at the African Ministerial Conference on Youth. The event held in Rabat brought together Youth ministers from African countries.

Mr Bensaid stressed the youth’s role in the social economic and political development agenda of Africa and highlighted the efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco for the implementation of the African Youth Charter, while reiterating the commitment to strengthen the South-South cooperation at the center of the foreign policy of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King MOHAMMED VI.

The Minister also emphasized the need to reconsolidate the place of the Pan-African Youth Union in the continental decision-making bodies, in order to carry the voice of African youth and provide real solutions to the problems of African youth.

For his part, Mr. Moumouni Dialla, President of the Pan-African Youth Union expressed his deep gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him, for the warm welcome given to the participating delegations and the living and working conditions offered to them while paying tribute to the Sovereign for his leadership in favor of African youth and stressing the importance of the projects initiated in order to take care of the expectations of the African youth.

Mr. Dialla also recalled the importance of the ratification of the African Youth Charter which aims to protect young people against discrimination and guarantees them freedom of movement, speech, association, religion, property, and other human rights, while committing to promote their participation in society.

Highlighting the importance of the Pan African Youth Union as a continental body advocating for the establishment of sound public policies for African youth, the African Ministers participating in this ministerial conference as well as the heads of the delegation stressed the need to preserve this institution and to further enhance its contribution to continental decision making.

Also, the representatives of the participating delegations expressed their thanks and gratitude to His Majesty King MOHAMMED VI for his unfailing royal commitment to the promotion of the conditions of African youth.

The conference has brought together 100 young leaders, representatives of National Youth Councils, civil society, and African youth platforms.
