Musician Ken wa Maria leads protest against governor Mutua
Popular benga musician Ken wa Maria was on Tuesday arrested for leading a protest caravan against Governor Alfred Mutua.
The musician and seven other people were taken into custody after leaving Makutano junction on the way to Machakos Town.
The ‘Okoa County Forum’ caravan had started at Athi River.
Police arrived in five county government cars and lobbed tear gas canisters at the swelling crowd.

They arrested Wa Maria as he played the song Ni wa Sinema, alluding to Governor Mutua’s stint as a movie maker.
Dr Mutua was the producer of the Cobra Squad TV series.
The others arrested included “Okoa County” chairman Musila Makola and former councillor Kelly Mutua.
They were charged with destruction of county property, resisting arrest and using abusive language.
They were later released after paying Sh30,000 bail each.
Contacted, Dr Mutua dismissed the protestors, saying that this was part of a strategy employed by elements opposed to development in Machakos county.
He said his development record speaks for itself, adding that there are those who would like to continue to cause chaos but he would not be distracted.
