Fresh details on Jeff Mwathi’s death contradict DJ Fatxo’s version

New details surrounding the death of Mr Jeff Mwathi, who died on February 22, 2023, now show a series of inconsistencies in a statement that was issued by Mr Lawrence Njuguna Wagura alias DJ Fatxo.

In his statement, DJ Fatxo said he left his apartment located on the tenth floor of Redwood suites where he lived and when he came back moments later he found out that Jeff was missing.

“I had left and when I came back I did not find Jeff in the house yet the others were there. I am even the one who went with the rest to the police station and reported that Jeff was missing,” DJ Fatxo told journalists in a past press conference.

He also told off his critiques who questioned why he went on with life as if everything was well, yet he had lost a friend.

The entertainer then said that he was the one who even informed the family that Jeff had died and even asked his mother to assist in reaching out to the family.

“I even told the family that I will ensure that we give him a decent send off, but it seems that the mother was not informed about all these,” he further said.

He also said that he was willing to cooperate with detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) during the ongoing probe into the death.

Already, sleuths attached to the DCI Headquarters along Kiambu Road have said that the death was not as a result of suicide but it was a murder.

“The first phase of the investigations included interviewing of the first cluster of witnesses in the case, forensic examination of the scene and retrieval of CCTV footage that captured the deceased’s last moments,” a statement by the DCI read in part.

It further revealed a second phase of the investigation where several persons of interest in the case will be interrogated and appropriate recommendations made before being forwarded to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).

However, a bit by bit investigation and reviewing of CCTV footages on the matter now raise more questions than answers especially on the statements issued by DJ Fatxo.

To start with, the CCTV footages which are in the possession of sleuths show that the DJ arrived at the apartments while accompanied by his cousin, driver, Jeff and three ladies.

The other identity which has been known by reporters apart from Jeff and DJ Fatxo is that of Ms Faith Mutanu, the lady who runs a shoe selling shop at Jifiche Club in Roysambu within Kasarani Sub-County.

At 5:30am, DJ Fatxo and the cousin are seen surveying the ground floor and in the same area where Jeff fell at 17 minutes later.

The CCTV footages show that at 5:39am, after conducting the survey, they then take the lift to the house of the musician. They are seen wearing gloves while making rounds in the apartment.

They then alight at 5:40am and head straight to the house before seven minutes later the body of Jeff is seen going down before it falls with a thud.

This raises the question why did the DJ say that he was not in the building when Jeff allegedly jumped to his death, yet CCTV footages clearly show that he was even in his house when the incident happened.

On the day he died, Jeff had told his mother that the DJ had called him so as they could discuss on how he would build him a shop similar to that he built for Jeff.

His mother, Ms Ann Mwathi said that her son was very happy when they last spoke as he was sure that he had landed another job which would see him make some money.

When contacted by this reporter, DJ Fatxo neither responded to our calls nor responded to messages despite switching on his phone and later switching it off.
