Who is Israel Mbonyi?
Israel Mbonyi has left an indelible mark on the gospel music scene since the beginning of his career.
Born to Christian parents in the Democratic Republic of Congo on May 20, 1992, Mbonyi’s musical journey began at a tender age, receiving early training from a music teacher during his childhood.
He introduced his talent to the world with the release of his debut song ‘Number One’ on March 10, 2014, coinciding with the release of his first album of the same name in the same year.
On March 10, Israel Mbonyi celebrated a decade in music.
With a degree in pharmacy from India, Mbonyi’s dedication to music led him to pursue it as a profession.
Most of his songs are in Kinyarwanda, but in 2023, he expanded his horizons by venturing into Swahili music.
His breakthrough hit ‘Nina Siri’, released on June 26, 2023, received widespread acclaim and resonated with audiences across East Africa, particularly in Tanzania and Kenya.
The success of ‘Nina Siri’ even led some, including former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, to express their admiration for Mbonyi’s talent, noting his poetic skills in songs.
“I’ve been watching this young man called Israel Mbonyi, he’s Rwandan but he sings like a Tanzanian. He’s very poetic when he sings ‘Nina Siri…’ then ‘Jasiri…'” Kalonzo told TV47 in an interview.
The song has more than 47 million views on YouTube.
On his birthday on December 24, Kalonzo also shared the song on his X page.
His other songs include: “Nitaamini” released in November 2023, “Malengo Ya Mungu” released in December 2023, and “Sikiliza” released in February 2024.
Away from music, Israel is a husband and father of one.
