Nollywood actor Mr Ibu’s leg amputated ‘to keep him alive’

Nollywood’s beloved comic actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has undergone a life-altering surgery to amputate one of his legs.

This revelation comes as a result of a new statement issued by the actor’s family, sharing the dire circumstances that led to this difficult decision.

News first emerged in October that the veteran actor was facing a serious health crisis, which prompted an urgent call for financial assistance to support his medical treatment.

In a statement posted on the actor’s official Instagram page on Monday, the family disclosed the grim reality of the situation.

The statement revealed that John Okafor, fondly known as Mr Ibu, had already undergone seven surgeries in his ongoing battle to stay alive.

However, to enhance his chances of recovery, it was necessary to amputate one of his legs.

The statement read, “Good afternoon, Nigerians. We want to appreciate everyone who has come through for our dad; saying we are grateful is an understatement, and only the good Lord can thank you all enough for every help you’ve rendered.”

As of the latest update, it was confirmed that Mr Ibu has bravely faced and successfully undergone seven surgeries.

However, the decision to amputate one of his legs was a painful and challenging one, made in the best interest of preserving his life.

“This development has been hard on us all, but we’ve had to accept it as Daddy’s new reality to keep him alive,” the statement acknowledged.

The family also reiterated their call for support, as the actor’s condition remains fragile.

They expressed their gratitude for the immense support they have received and the prayers that have been offered on Mr Ibu’s behalf.

“Please, we are still soliciting support from well-meaning Nigerians as, at this stage, Daddy is still very delicate, and he needs all the help he can get.”

In their closing remarks, the family assured the public that John Okafor, Mr Ibu, would personally express his gratitude to all those who supported him during this challenging period as soon as he regains stability.

The news of Mr Ibu’s amputation has been met with an outpouring of sympathy and well-wishes from fans, colleagues, and the entertainment industry as a whole.
