Nuru Okanga – I’ve nothing to celebrate this Jamhuri Day

Renowned youth politician Nuru Okanga, has voiced his discontent with the current economic state of the nation, expressing his lack of enthusiasm for the 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations due to the prevailing high cost of living.

Speaking candidly to an NTV reporter on Tuesday, December 12, from Kakamega County, Okanga highlighted the economic challenges facing ordinary citizens, stating that the situation on the ground is becoming increasingly unbearable.

“I’m not proud of this Jamhuri Day. For the past week that I have been here at home, I’ve analysed the situation in this town, and people are complaining that the holiday is around but they don’t have anything in their pockets or anything to take to their families at home,” Okanga stated.

According to Okanga, the common Kenyan lacks a reason to celebrate on this day, emphasizing that significant interventions are required, especially with Christmas approaching.

As a fervent supporter of Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga, Okanga challenged President William Ruto to implement measures that would alleviate the economic struggles faced by the majority of Kenyans.

“I want to ask those in leadership that the lives of common Kenyans are in a bad situation now. They need to have a meeting with the budget committee and discuss the way forward to allow Kenyans to have something in their pockets,” he urged.

In addition, Okanga dismissed the idea of waiting for leaders to organize demonstrations, encouraging Kenyans to take action for their own sake instead of relying on Opposition leaders.

Addressing speculation about his KCPE results, Okanga confidently asserted that doubters should visit the primary school in Kakamega County where he took his examinations. He further expressed confidence in being selected to join one of the top schools in the country, Alliance Boys High School.

“I did my exams, and though it’s a private matter, I shared it on social media. Just know that I excelled, and I’m going to Alliance,” he affirmed. Okanga’s sentiments reflect the broader concerns of many Kenyans grappling with economic hardships amid the festive season.
