Rarieda Member of Parliament, Otiende Amollo, is now calling for the unconditional release of the eight students from Ambira Boys High School who filmed themselves hurling insults at Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed and her Interior counterpart Fred Mataing’i.

In the video, the students also brag about cheating in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

BAD BEHAVIOUR

The highly respected lawyer, is best remembered for the key role he played in Nasa’s successful petition at the Supreme Court challenging President Uhuru Kenyatta election victory of August 8, 2017.

“I cannot fathom what offence they could possibly be charged with. Bad behaviour and ill manners is not a crime,” said Otiende, in whose constituency the school is located, posted on Twitter.

Otiende’s sentiments come a few days after the boys appeared before Resident Magistrate Gladys Adhiambo at Ukwala Law Court.

PROSECUTION

They, however, were not allowed to take a plea even as the prosecution requested for seven more days to conclude investigations.

Otiende’s viewpoint however sharply differs with that of President Kenyatta, who stated that the boys were ‘where they are supposed to be’.

At the same time, top city lawyer Nelson Havi has offered to represent the eight students ahead of the case mention on December 3.
