Pastor Ben Kiengei throws shade at ‘mbegu’ pastors

Renowned pastor Ben Kiengei has thrown shade at pastors who ask their congregants to plant seeds by donating some cash for deliverance.

Speaking while delivering a sermon in his church, Kiengei who doubles up as a Kameme FM presenter shared that he would never have such utterances while preaching.

With prosperity gospel and deliverance sermons hooking many believers, Kiengei shared that his congregants were people who had overcome adversaries in life.

Walking in the church, Kiengei while mimicking the panda mbegu pastors said, “As I’m walking around this side I can see a cloud of death go in front with some cash ‘mbegu’ to block that death.”

He added, “I preach to people who are victorious, are not possessed by demons, or are stricken by poverty. I cannot spend my Sundays preaching fearful messages.”

Panda mbegu is now a common catchphrase in church circles that was popularised by Pastor Victor Kanyari in his televised sermons. The crafty and self-proclaimed ‘Prophet’ urged viewers to ‘plant the seed’ by sending Sh310 via M-Pesa for blessings, a figure coined from Malachi 3:10 in the bible.

But shortly, Kanyari was caught playing games and performing fake miracles for money. It would then emerge that the con man pastor would even coach some of his members to testify of the ‘Lord’s’ doing in his Sunday services so as to lure unsuspecting Kenyans to panda mbegu.

In a media expose, Kanyari was seen even correcting the ‘testifies’ his followers would make giving suggestions on what could sell the narrative and make others send more money to him in the spirit of ‘receiving their miracles.’

The form two dropout who took the title ‘Dr’ because it sounded cool is now embroiled in a tussle with the Kenya Revenue Authority over tens of millions in unpaid taxes.

Kanyari is reported to have recently completed erecting a Sh50 million home along Kangundo Road.
