Police in Kehancha, Migori County are investigating an incident where their colleague consumed an unknown substance that reportedly took his life.

Mr Peter Arida fell sick moments after consuming what is suspected to be methylated spirit which made him blind.

Mr Arida then started complaining that he had lost his eyesight which made the family to take him to Kombe Dispensary.

Doctors at the dispensary then said that it was difficult to deal with the situation and instead asked them to rush him to another facility located in Migori Town.

“He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and the matter was reported at Kombe Police post,” a police report seen by Nairobi News read in part.

It remains unclear whether the father of two died of the spirit or he had consumed something else.

Police visited the scene and picked up the chemical for analysis. The body was moved to the mortuary.

This comes barely a week after 23 people died after consuming alcohol which was meant to be an exhibit.

According to local reports, rogue officers from the Kiamaciri Police Station took the alcohol from the station storage and sold it to the bar owner at Ksh20,000.

The owner of the bar known as California Bar which is located in Kangai within Mwea in Kirinyaga County then sold to locals at a cheap price.

The killer brew was reportedly a court exhibit that had been in the station for months and was most likely expired and poisonous.

A police report seen by Nairobi News revealed that Mr Kennedy Mugambi who is currently attached to Kabete Sub-County, Mr Allan Kiamanzi, Mr Brian Kariuki and Mr Francis Mutethia have been arrested after they were linked to the deaths. Mr Mugambi is the immediate former Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Kiamaciri police post.

They will be charged with stealing from a locked room, conspiracy to commit a felony and defeating justice.

The officers after the arrest have been transferred to Baricho Police Station.
