Prof Lonyangapuo re-emerges, says some politicians are under demonic influence

Former West Pokot governor John Krop Lonyangapuo has lashed out at some political leaders in the county, accusing them of being under the influence of demons.

Prof Lonyangapuo, who is visibly unhappy with a faction of political leaders in the region, expressed disappointment with their early campaign efforts to secure seats in the 2027 general elections.

According to the former governor, these leaders should focus on transforming the lives of the people in the county instead of engaging in premature politics.

Prof Lonyangapuo claimed they were possessed by demons and in a trance-like state.

“We still have about four years to the 2027 general elections and you are already campaigning… This person is someone who is possessed by demons,” said Prof Lonyangapuo.

He did not, however, name the political leaders he claimed were putting personal ambition ahead of public service.

But he hinted that the group included Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and Members of Parliament (MPs).

“Some MCAs, what are you fighting for? Resign and let us find someone else to lead us for the remaining four years,” Prof Lonyangapuo said.

He added: “There are some MPs who are also possessed by these demons.”

He stressed that a significant number of these political leaders are eyeing the West Pokot governorship without any clear intentions for the position.

“What do these people want from the position?” Mr Lonyangapuo asked.

Contrary to popular belief, he said the position of governor should not be taken lightly and those driven by selfish desires would end up with nothing.

Prof Lonyangapuo served as the second governor of West Pokot from 2017 to 2022, having been a county senator from 2013 to 2017.

He is a member of KANU, a party led by Gideon Moi, son of the late President Daniel arap Moi.

Highlighting his achievements, Prof Lonyangapuo praised his leadership as governor of West Pokot, citing the successful revival of schools that had been forgotten for the past 60 years.

Lonyangapuo, who holds a PhD, previously served as PS for Industrialisation under the government of the late President Mwai Kibaki from 2008 to 2010.
