It’s a double tragedy for the family of the former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha as his body and that of his younger sibling lies at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi awaiting burial.

Prof Magoha, 71, died suddenly on Tuesday, January 25, 2023, after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Prof Magoha’s brother, Prof Arnold Nyabera, had meanwhile died in the USA in December 2022.

And in a twist of events, Prof Magoha’s body was transferred to Lee Funeral Home at about the same time his brother’s body was transported there after it was flown to Kenya from the US.

As per an obituary in the Daily Nation, Prof Nyabera breathed his last on December 6, 2022 in Texas, United States.

Prof Nyabera had been diagnosed with cancer in 2021.

“He was in hospital for about a month as doctors fought to save some of his organs that were failing. He was not given much time to live due to the advanced stage of the disease,” reads part of Prof Nyabera’s obituary.

Prof Nyabera’s funeral was slated to take place on January 28, 2022, in Siaya County but the family is yet to confirm the same following with the demise of Magoha.

“We are very saddened by the death of Professor George Magoha, until yesterday was the one handling the burial of his late brother Richard, we as family we got it as a very big shock, because during the day we were arranging how we will come view the body of the late Richard only to learn that he is gone, he was the pillar who has been arranging and making sure that his brother is properly buried,” Said Ms Atieno.

President William Ruto, former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio leader Raila Odinga has led Kenyans in mourning Mr Magoha.
