Revelations of John Matara’s disturbing past unearthed


In a chilling expose Nairobi News can now bring to light the harrowing details surrounding John Matara, the prime suspect in the murder of Ms Starlet Wahu.

The unfolding narrative exposes a dark and violent history, shedding light on why authorities had long sought after him.

Nairobi News has learned that on Sunday, January 7, 2024, a brave lady, who wishes to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the matter, recorded a statement with the police at Makadara Police Station.

She detailed a traumatic encounter with Matara, alleging a brutal assault that took place within the confines of Kahawa Wendani.

The woman revealed that she had initially met Matara through a popular dating site in May 2023.

Despite their limited acquaintance, he persistently pressured her to meet him at his residence. Refusing his advances, she declined his invitation, citing their lack of familiarity.

Undeterred, Matara offered to arrange an Uber for her, insisting on the visit. The woman recounted that Matara exhibited an unsettling curiosity during his visit and even inquired about purchasing prohibited substances, such as bhang.

“He asked me to switch off my phone, wanting undivided attention,” she disclosed, underscoring the ominous atmosphere that preceded the ensuing ordeal.

As the night unfolded, Matara’s demeanor took a sinister turn. At 8:30 pm, he violently assaulted the woman, subjecting her to physical abuse and stripping her naked before confining her to a bed for six agonising hours. Despite her tearful pleas, the assault continued unabated.

To compound the horror, Matara brandished three knives, threatening to end the woman’s life unless she disclosed her Mpesa PIN number. Fearing for her life, she relented, and Matara, after securing Sh18,000, finally released her.

The traumatised woman only received assistance over an hour later when she reached out to a friend, who took her to the hospital. Despite reporting the incident at Kahawa Sukari Police Station, Matara remained at large, evading arrest.

Matara’s sinister actions did not culminate with this assault. His subsequent arrest in connection with the murder of Prophet Kanyari’s baby sister, Starlet, on January 7.

Makadara police boss Judith Nyongesa said the police found the girl had bled to death.

“The suspect cut the woman’s vein connecting to the heart which is why she died faster. We could not save her,” she said.
