Sarah Kabu: I’d asked my hubby for separation

Sarah Kabu says she asked her husband for a separation at the start of 2022.

Sarah and her husband Simon Kabu, known to Kenyans as a successful well-to-do couple, have been involved in a public tiff on social media in recent times. The fallout resulted in shock among Kenyans on social media, as they had been viewed as role models to many.

In a wide-ranging online interview, Kabu, the Managing Director at Bonfire Adventures also opened up on her fears separating from her husband would make her lose her status as a moral ambassador on social media.

“From January, my new year resolution was like I did not want it to be like the other years. I started discussing with him about a peaceful separation and co-parenting. I’d been telling him I am not comfortable in this marriage. I was tired of faking,” she explained.

Sarah admits that owing to the previous discussions of separation, she informed Kabu that she would be moving out to an Airbnb to get herself together. But the first challenge cropped up when he reportedly picked the kids from school and proceeded on holiday without prior consultations.

“I slept at the hotel. He organized with the daughter to pick up the kids from school without my consent and went to Amboseli. I did not know and they did not go with any of my nannies. I did not know my kids had gone until evening.”

Having known at the onset of their relationship that Kabu had a daughter and a son with two different baby mamas, she asked him to ensure that they do not interfere with her family.

While advising young couples not to lie to themselves, Sarah says, “Don’t marry a man expecting that he will change. There are some personalities we are born with and can’t change. Study the personality of the person you intend to marry and research knowing clearly their pros and cons.”

Through her Whatsapp status barely a week ago, Sarah revealed there was trouble in her marriage and accused police officers of aiding her husband in taking away her three children.

In a question and answer session with his followers, Kabu, the Bonfire Adventures Chief Executive suggested he’d not been cheating on his wife as reported.

“Is it true you have a 24-year-old daughter, and you have been hiding her from Sarah?” the follower asked to which he responded, “Hapo kwa hiding apana but yuko. (I have not been hiding her).

The couple is yet to announce whether they will continue to run their business jointly.
