SCANDAL: Kenyan players caught in a drinking spree after big loss in Cecafa

The conduct and professionalism of national football team players is under scrutiny yet again after it emerged that some members of the playing unit went for a drinking spree at a night club shortly after an embarrassing loss at the ongoing Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia.

Nairobi News can authoritatively reveal that three members (names withheld) of the team and a junior member of the backroom staff decided to shake off the shock 3-1 loss to Zanzibar in Friday evening with rounds of drinks at an entertainment joint just  20 metres from the Tadesse Enjory Hotel where the team is booked.

Inspite of a heavy presence of members of the media at the joint, the players and official in question seemed unfazed and went about their business of ordering drink after drink till the wee hours of Saturday morning.

BOYCOTT THREAT

Interestingly, one of the players played the entire match while the other, a senior member of the squad, was an unused substitute. The third player didn’t make it to the match day squad.

A day prior to the match against Zanzibar, the players had issued a boycott threat to protest the non-payment of their outstanding training and winning allowances.

The latest incident will evoke memories of a similar controversy barely three months ago when it was reported that some members of the team were involved in a sex orgy in the team’s hotel in Nairobi before a crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Zambia in Nairobi. Kenya lost the match 2-1.

At the time, it was reported that three players managed to sneak in a female companion to the team’s hotel where they indulged in a sex orgy before the team went on to lose the match 2-1 to Zambia.
