Schools on Obama route to stay closed on Friday


Public and private schools in Kasarani, Langata and Starehe sub-counties, which are on the are on main transit routes of the visiting US President Barack Obama, will be closed on Friday.

According to the Director of Education in Nairobi County, Mr Abdikadir Ali, schools in areas such as Dagoreti and Ruai will, however, be unaffected.

“We have advised the schools to give the pupils and students a day off for schools that are on main transit routes but not all schools will be affected. Learning will go on in those schools that are not affected ,” said Mr Ali.

He said that the decision had been arrived at due to the anticipated traffic disruption on roads that visiting US President’s entourage will use.

Loreto Convent Musongari has also advised pupils not to go to school.

“Due to the anticipated traffic inconvenience in Nairobi this weekend, school will not be open this Friday 24th July,” said a communication to parents by Sister Pauline.

President Obama will be in the country from Friday to Sunday and will attended Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) that will also be attended by more than 300 participants.
