Sofapaka overpower Dynamos
Kevin ‘Ade’ Omondi struck the lone in Sofapaka’s 1-0 win over the visiting Power Dynamos of Zambia in an international build up match at the Nyayo National Stadium on Thursday.
The attack-minded midfielder reminded Gor Mahia of what they will be missing when the Kenyan Premier League season gets underway with a crisp finish late in the first half from a one-two with Enock Agwanda.
Going by his eye catching display yesterday, he could be counted on by Sofapaka to play an important role in their continental and league ambitions.
The game begun rather sluggishly although Sofapaka gradually grew into the game in the opening exchanges.
The Omondi-Agwanda combination bore fruit four minutes to the break for what would be the difference between the two teams.
A determined Dynamo could have leveled the scores two minutes later but Julius Situmbeko, who once linked to a move to Gor Mahia, watched in agony as his penalty was saved by Sofapaka custodian David Okello after Felix Sunzu had brought down Willis Ouma in the six yard box.
Situmbeko could have atoned for his miss later in the second half he got a clear chance in the danger area but Sofapaka’s inspirational skipper Felly Mulumba made a goal-line clearance.
This is the second friendly match the Zambian side is playing in under a week in Kenya having given Gor a 3-0 hiding at the same venue last Sunday. They will next face promoted Nakumatt at the same venue on Saturday under floodlights.
Power Dynamos are in Nairobi for a training camp on transit to Sudan where they will play Al- Khratoum in the first leg preliminary round match of the Caf Confederations Cup while Sofapaka are preparing to host Zimbabwean side FC Platinum in the same competition.
