Did Sonko really mean it when he said Ugandan dictator Idi Amin was a better orator?
Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has ‘admitted’ that former Uganda dictator President Idi Amin Dada was a better orator than him.
Sonko, who is often the subject of online memes for his perceived far from impressive oratory skills, made the curious admission in a Facebook post that attracted enormous feedback from his followers.
Sonko uploaded an undated short clip of Amin at an when he was still the president of Uganda and captioned it; “This guy used to speak good English than Governors Sonko and Waititu.”
Interestingly, both Sonko and (Kiambu governor Ferdinand) Waititu, Kiambu, have been the butt of online jokes for their oratory skills.
REIGN OF TERROR
Idi Amin too, also reportedly had challenges articulating himself to his audience.
In that particular clip, for instance, he is heard addressing doctors, stating; “… to be a doctor is not very easy right from the time you have been borned (sic)… You went through difficult, through primary schools, and you are very intelligence…”
The semi-literate ruler is best remembered for his reign of terror as the President of Uganda between 1971 and 1979.
He seized power in a military coup that overthrew Milton Obote and was deposed by Yusuf Lule after ruling the country with an iron fist for eight years. He died on 16 August 2003 while in exile in Saudi Arabia.
