Sounds of love: Sol Generation introduces 4 female musicians
Sol Generation is set to introduce four new budding female musicians into the limelight on Valentine’s Day with the release of their collaborative Extended Play (E.P) dubbed ‘The Press Play EP’
The four, Juanita, Wakesho, The Bakhita and Lukundo have been on a six-month programme to harness their artistic skills under the guidance of the Sauti Sol’s owned record label.
With the release of the quartet’s first single from the EP, ‘Release Unfreeze’ this week, the ground is now set for Wednesday next week with the official release of the EP marking the end of the Press Play programme.
“The Press Play Project is a groundbreaking initiative that brings together emerging female artists from Eastern Africa to showcase their talent, creativity, and passion for music. Our mission is to provide a platform for talent discovery, development, and collaboration. In line with this, the project has been a platform for talent discovery and development through music and creativity aiming to inspire and uplift the next generation of artists,” Sol Generation, CEO William Nanjero told Nairobi News.

In October last year, Sol Generation announced its plan to equip over 300 up-and-coming musicians in Eastern Africa with the necessary requisite towards developing their talent and skills to becoming a professional musician.
“The six-month program funded by the Ignite Culture Fund, curated by British Council and Heva Fund mainly targets female musicians and will culminate in the production of an EP for the top four musicians,” Nanjero stated in October 2023.
During the six months, the four were taken through the Sol Generation Artist’s Development Programme which included songwriting, brand development, marketing, financial management and proper music distribution methods.
This development comes at a time when two key Sol Generation signees Nviiri The Story Teller and Bensoul are set to leave the record label.
Sauti Sol is yet to announce any new signings but Hot Topics understands that any of the four could eventually be signed to Sol Generation to fill the void left by Bensoul and Nviiri.
