Speaker warns against loose talk on MP’s killing
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has urged politicians to stop accusations over the death of Kabete MP George Muchai.
Speaking during a prize giving ceremony at AIC Malivani Primary School in Makueni, Mr Muturi cautioned leaders against rushing to point fingers at others.
“Leaders are warned over what they say in public as these people have families and relatives. Consider the damage you are inflicting through certain utterances you make,” said Mr Muturi.
The Speaker’s sentiments came in the wake of controversial statements by Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi, Thika Town MP Alice Nga’ng’a and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on the killing.
Mr Muturi added that leaders should not be carried away by emotions, especially on the sensitive matter of insecurity.
COMPROMISE INVESTIGATIONS
Separately, Luhya leaders have called for a stop to speculation on Mr Muchai’s death, saying it could compromise police investigations.
The leaders said ignoring facts surrounding the crime would not solve the issues of insecurity and only polarise the communities.
Amani Coalition leader Musalia Mudavadi cautioned Mr Kambi and the MPs against pushing investigators to follow their line of thought over the killing.
“It’s irresponsible for a Cabinet secretary to claim he knows killers. He should be charged as an accessory to murder,” he said in Nairobi.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale told the Labour CS to stop using Mr Muchai’s death to settle personal scores.
Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) acting Secretary-General Moses Okwaro, too, said some people in government wanted to use killing to settle scores with some Cotu officials.
