Stars fall as Leopards, KCB prevail


Zdravko Logarusic, posted his first league win in his second spell in the country as AFC Leopards subdued Nairobi City Stars 1-0 in a cracking encounter at the City Stadium on Saturday.

Jacob Keli scored the match winning goal in the 65th minute from Abdallah Juma’s cross during a period of relentless Leopards pressure.

Logarusic, taking charge of his  second competitive match in the Leopards dug out elected to start with Diallo Mohamed as the main upfront man and Duncan Otieno in an attacking midfield role, but rested both players at half time to introduce Keli and Austin Ikenna.

Although Ingwe were lively throughout the first stanza, it was the two second half substitutes who ignited the team’s attack.

“I’m happy with the win. It has given us the direction to follow. The boys played with determination and we have proved something despite inadequate preparation,” Logarusic said.

In an earlier match at the same venue, Kenya Commercial Bank whipped Nakuru All Stars 6-2 in an eight goal thriller, while in Thika, Mathare United stunned hosts Thika United 3-1.

Eric Mata bragged a brace while Daniel Mwaura scored the other goal to give the Slum Boys all three points. Thika got their consolation goal through Kennedy Otieno.

At Awendo Green Stadium, Sony Sugar and Muhoroni Youth battled to a scoreless draw.

In the match between KCB and All Stars, Raymond Murugi and Kelvin Omondi both struck twice for the bankers with left back Yusuf Juma and Ugandan Ronald Musana also on target.

Nakuru got two late consolation goals through Teddy Siwa and veteran midfielder Hilary Echessa who scored a lovely free kick.

In the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League, Oserian collected maximum points with a 2-0 win over Nakumatt FC in Naivasha.

Philip Muchuma and Peter Chesoli accounted for Oserian’s goals in the 37th and 87th minutes of the match.

However, the home team finished the match with ten men after striker Geoffrey Ouma was sent off for dissent.

At the Muhoroni Stadium, the match between Agrochemicals and Zoo Kericho was called off in the 87th minute after fans of both teams invaded the pitch and clashed violently.

Agrochemicals were leading 2-0 at the time and the ensuing melee led to the injury of four fans.

Kevin Omondi put Agrochemicals infront in the 29th minute before Joseph Karamoja doubled the lead a minute to half time.

In another match played at the Nyayo National Stadium, Talanta FC beat Modern Coast 2-0. Anthony Karanja and David Juma were the goal scorers for Talanta.

At Bukhungu Stadium hosts Kakamega Homeboyz and St. Joseph FC shared the spoils in a match that ended scoreless.
