Suspect in killing of Nairobi hospital finance director faces murder charge
The main suspect in the killing of Nairobi Hospital Finance Director Eric Maigo is set to face murder charges.
This follows the closure of the investigations file by police.
The suspect has been in custody for 26 days.
Milimani Law Courts senior principal magistrate Gilbert Shikwe, closed the probe file after a state prosecutor said “investigations have been completed.”
Mr Shikwe directed the suspect to be presented before a High Court judge to take a plea over the murder of Maigo in September 2023.
Earlier, Adhiambo’s lawyer Samuel Ayora had told the court he was yet to receive a copy of the charge and witness statements.
“We are yet to receive a copy of the capital charge and committal bundles,” he stated.
He said the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had not furnished both the court and the defence with the necessary committal documents.
A deputy registrar criminal division of the high court directed the suspect be remanded in custody from where she will plead to the murder charge virtually.
The suspect was arrested on September 26, 2023, at the Olympic area within Kibra, Nairobi County.
Police through Corporal Patrick Boge sought to have her detained for 21 days to enable investigators to tie up loose ends in the case.
She was arrested following a report of murder at Woodly Annex in Kibra within Kilimani.
Urging the court to detain Ms Adhiambo, the investigating officer told senior principal magistrate Zainab Abdul that on September 15, 2023, a report was made by one Amina Komara at Kibra police station that there was a commotion at house number 6, at Woodley Estate Annex Upper of Kibra.
He said a team of police officers from the Kilimani sub-county visited the crime scene and established that the deceased Eric Maigo,37, was lying with multiple stab wounds on the chest, face, and neck.
The investigators secured the scene.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was in the company of the respondent herein before he was found murdered where she is suspected to have attacked the deceased while armed with kitchen knives,” the court was told,” the court was told.
The officer said investigations indicate that the minor was among the group that orchestrated the violence which resulted in the death of the deceased.
The police officers who visited the crime scene recovered the murder weapons.
“The continued detention of the respondent is immensely necessary for the furtherance and finalizing of the investigations, his release could further lead to interference with the investigation,” the officer stated in his affidavit in support of the detention plea.
The officer said he needed time to escort the girl for mental/age assessment/age and subject her to a medical examination to ascertain injuries inflicted when escaping from the crime scene.
Maigo had 25 stab wounds when he was picked from his Woodley Estate residence.
At his burial, the deceased’s family said he had expressed fears for his life.
