Suspected thief killed in Nairobi

Police in Fort Jesus area, Kibra in Nairobi County on the morning of Thursday, October 20, 2022, picked a body of a man who had been burnt by locals for allegedly being a robber.

The episode began in the morning when a woman was heard screaming saying the man snatched her handbag.

Locals went after the man and managed to get hold of him before they subjected him to a mob injustice, killing him in the process before setting his body ablaze.

Photos of the scene where the man had been set ablaze made rounds on social media as locals in Kibra asked the police to be more vigilant as the area was becoming more insecure.

The incident took place just a day after a man was stoned to death by members of the public for allegedly stealing a phone from a pregnant woman in Gacheha, Ruaraka.

“On 17/20/2022 at 1345hrs at Gacheha area, it was reported that an unknown lone gang had snatched a mobile phone from a woman who raised an alarm. Members of the public responded and cornered him before stoning him to death. Scene visited and the body was moved to City Morgue pending autopsy and identification,” a police report seen by Nairobi News read in part.

Meanwhile, police officers in Dandora are yet to arrest a gang of armed robbers who over the weekend shot and badly injured a woman within the Dumpsite area in Buruburu Sub County.

Ms Edith Gathoni Kimani was shot by the gun totting robbers and was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital where she was admitted following the incident that took place on Sunday, October 16, 2022, incident.

According to the police, the bullet that hit Ms. Gathoni had exited from her right shoulder, but doctors said she was stable.
