Suspects in Thuo’s murder to remain in custody

A Judge on Monday allowed police to hold in remand six suspects arrested in connection to the death of former MP George Thuo for eight days to allow for further investigations.

Judge David Manjaja gave the directive after the prosecution claimed the suspects could interfere with ongoing investigations if released on bail.

The suspects were arraigned before Judge Majanja on Monday and, through lawyer Cliff Ombeta, had requested to be released on bail.

The suspects are Paul Wainaina Boiyo, Christopher Lumbazio, Andrew Karanja, Samuel Kuria, Esther Ndinda and Ruth Watahi.

Police say they are investigating the possibility that the former Juja MP and Chief Whip might have been poisoned.

Judge Majanja directed that the six remain in custody and will be at liberty to file a new application seeking release on bail after the police have concluded their work.

Ms Catherine Mwaniki, for the prosecution, said the police prefer charges against the accused during the next mention.
The case will be mentioned on January 15, 2014.
