Ailing Tusker coach Matano faces lengthy spell on the sickbay
Recovering Tusker coach Robert Matano is set to miss his side’s league clash against Mount Kenya United on Sunday.
Nairobi News understands Matano has been unwell for the past month or so, a condition that has forced him to miss the first two matches of the 2018/2019 Kenyan Premier League season.
MATANO’S ABSENCE
Tusker drew 1-1 with Sony Sugar on their season opener before falling to Western Stima by a solitary goal in their second match.
“We expect him to be back latest by February. In the meantime his assistants will take charge of the team,” a source within the club explained.
In Matano’s absence, Charles Okello has been conducting the team’s training and leading the squad from the dugout.
HEALTH CONCERNS
This is the second time the multiple Kenyan Premier League winning coach has been forced out of action owing to health concerns.
In 2016, the former Sofapaka and AFC Leopards coach, while in charge of Ulinzi, faced a lengthy spell on the sidelines owing to kidney complications which required surgery.
