Why Wanyama’s value has diminished in the Premier League
Harambee Stars captain and Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama’s economic value has decreased by almost half in the past two months, according to reports in the sections of the English media.
The reason for the decrease in value according to the Metro, is two fold. One, Wanyama’s contract with Southampton will only have a year to run come June, and with that, English Premier League giants Arsenal are understood to be keen to explore the uncertainty considering the player has turned down several offers to extend his current Sh12 million a month deal by 2017.
Two, Wanyama’s recent questionable discipline record which has him currently serving a five-match suspension is believed to be chasing away potential suitors.
OFFER FROM ARSENAL
Wanyama’s impressive performances for his club during the past two seasons has seen him consistently linked with lucrative moves to other top teams in the English Premier League, amongst them Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, and more recently Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham are understood to have tabled a bid of around £18 million (Sh2.8 billion), plus a season long loan offer for Argentine international Eric Lamela, in exchange for his services. The offer was however rejected by Dutch coach Ronald Koemen.
However, with three months left to the end of the 2015/2016 EPL season, the Metro is now reporting that Arsenal are preparing a lesser offer in the region of £12 million (Sh1.7 billion) for Wanyama.
Wanyama is expected to lead a new look Harambee Stars during the forthcoming 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Guinea Bissau on March 27.
