Why Wamuchomba is threatening to reject the bipartisan talks report

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has said she will not support the bipartisan talks reports if it fall short of the expectation of Kenyans.

The MP stated he position while addressing mourners at a funeral in her constituency.

“Is it okay if I let you people be and watch you suffer? That is why I’m asking for your permission, if that report will not show aspects of one man, one shilling, one vote, allow me to vote against it early in the morning,” she said.

In a late-night media briefing on Saturday, the National Dialogue Committee announced that it had delivered the report to President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga.

Originally scheduled for a noon release on Saturday, the unveiling of the document, prepared by representatives chosen by the two leaders, was postponed to 5pm.

Sunday Nation reported that contentious language in the final draft and concerns regarding the cost of living led to renewed disputes and extensive discussions throughout the day.

Additionally, the oOposition’s demands included a suggestion to reduce taxes on petroleum products.

The framework agreement signed by the opposing parties includes a clause stating that the National Dialogue Committee is to present to Parliament a compilation of ‘a list of agreed issues and those not agreed upon.’

This clause implies that the National Assembly and Senate will ultimately decide on matters where the committee couldn’t reach a consensus.
