Why NTSA will focus alcoblow operation on Thika Road
The sharp increase in the number of road accidents along the Thika Superhighway has been attributed to drink driving with National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) officers together with police promising a crackdown to arrest the situation.
Thika West Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Tom Anjere together with the NTSA regional manager John Parteroi, Thika traffic police and other security officials met on Wednesday to discuss issues.
The meeting came barely a week after a grisly road accident which occurred at Ndarugo area of Juja sub-county where four young men died on the spot. They were suspected to have been drunk.
Speaking during press briefing, NTSA regional manager John Parteroi said that there was an increase of accidents mostly over the weekends caused by drunk drivers along the busy superhighway, and areas between Blue Post and Makongeni.

“It has come to our attention that there is an increase of accidents mostly during the weekends along Thika Superhighway and are caused by drunk drivers. We cannot allow this to happen and that is why our officers will launch a serious crackdown,” said Parteroi.
Parteroi explained that at least 12 people have died in the last three months mostly during weekends due to drink driving, adding that road blocks would be increased.
He added that NTSA in partnership with the security officers are ready to work together to tame drunk drivers and Public Service Vehicles (PSV) carrying excess passengers along the highway.
