City Hall gun threat rep to be discussed

A City County Assembly leader, who drew his gun and pointed it at a female representative, faces disciplinary action.

Majority Leader, Mr Elias Otieno Amadi, could be removed from the position for threatening fellow County Rep, Ms Nancy Luchiri, if the motion against him sails through on Thursday.

Otieno, the Kileleshwa Ward Representative, has already recorded a statement at the office of the City Director of Investigations, Mr Geoffrey Kathurima.

On Tuesday, Mr Kathurima admitted: “I am on the case. We have interrogated Mr Otieno and two other County Reps. We still have four more county reps to interrogate…the ones who are said to have been there.”

Otieno clashed with Ms Luchiri at the Speaker’s office on Thursday.

Witnesses, who requested not to be named, told NairobiNews that Mr Otieno drew his gun and threatened to finish Ms Luchiri for “maligning” his name.

He accused another female County Rep of using the incident to fight him.

“We have differences with a female County Rep who is inciting the complainant. I do not need a gun to deal with a woman. Can’t you see me?” Mr Otieno snarled exposing his biceps.

Mr Otieno said the incident had been exaggerated.

“I hear people are saying one community is against another. There is nothing like that,” he said adding: “There is nowhere this matter will go. It will fizzle out in a few days.”

Witnesses to the incident said Otieno had refused to shake hands with Ms Luchiri when she found him at the Speaker’s office.

The speaker, Alex Ole Magelo, has also recorded a statement with Mr Kathurima.

Motion

Jubilee County Reps are said to have collected 33 signatures although it was not clear how many are required to institute the motion on Thursday.

“He feels he knows everything and does not respect women,” said Ms Petronilla Nafula, an ODM nominated County Rep, of MR Otieno.

Mr Otieno is the County Rep for Kileleshwa.

As Majority Leader, he is close to the powerful governor’s office as the link between the office and the volatile County Assembly.
