Government yet to enforce Sports Act rules
The Government is yet to formally enforce its own rules which barred sports organizations that haven’t conformed to the Sports Act from participating in competitions.
On Thursday Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and the Arts Hassan Wario announced in an advert on the Daily Nation that “all sports organizations that have not been fully registered under the Sports Act should not participate in any National, Regional and International competitions.”
But a spot check by Nairobi News revealed that a number of local and continental football activities were all set to take place this weekend, despite Football Kenya Federation failing to meet the August 1 deadline for registration.
These include the FKF Premier League matches, an All African Games qualifying match between Kenya and Egypt in Cairo, an international friendly match featuring the two countries’ women football teams, and number of lower tier league games.

A number of volleyball league matches also took place in Nakuru, while the national U-20 team is in Egypt to compete in the World Cup qualifiers.
Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Chairman Waithaka Kioni confirmed that his body was in the process of formalizing the registration.
A number of sports organizations, including the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) and Kenya Golf Union (KGU) have already been registered according to a correspondence seen by Nairobi News.
Other bodies such as the Kenya Table Tennis Association (KTTA) and Kenya Judo Association have asked for more time.
This new set of rules are, according to the Government, meant to ensure efficiency and professionalism in the management of sports in the country.
