Isaac Mwaura responds to reports of Ruto-Riggy G ‘rift’
Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has poured cold water on reports of a frosty relationship between President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, in regard to the ‘government shareholding’ concept.
In an interview on Citizen TV, Mwaura, who is barely a week into his new role, stated that the perceived rift between the President and second in command is a ‘creation of the media’.
“The President and his Deputy are okay and reading on the same script. This is just but creation of the media. Deliberate creation of that rift,” said Mwaura
Mwaura, who has in the past served as a politician, further emphasized that those who supported the President in the past, and especially during the campaign season, would be given preference in government appointments, as they align with the Kenya Kwanza vision.
He clarified that all Kenyans have equal opportunities within the government, but individuals who worked closely with the President and Deputy might receive priority in certain positions.
“I want to say clearly and categorically that every Kenyan has an equal opportunity to whatever the government has to offer. Yes, it is true that those who worked with the President and the DP may get a priority in terms of serving in certain positions. At the same time, the President is reaching out to everyone even those who did not vote for him to ensure that we move forward as a country,” said Mwaura.
Mwaura urged the media not to create divisions between the President and Deputy.
President Ruto recently rejected the idea of allocating government resources based on voting regions, calling it ‘primitive and backward’.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had previously promoted the notion that the government resembles a private shareholding company, a view criticized by both the opposition and his colleagues in government, including National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro, who emphasized that all Kenyans are part of the government, while Public Service CS Moses Kuria highlighted that all Kenyans have a role in the country’s development.
