Elizabeth Muthoni Wanyoike, the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (NIBS), is undoubtedly one of the renowned academic investors across the country.

Ranked among the best hospitality colleges in Kenya, Ms Elizabeth, popularly referred to as Madam
Liz, founded it in 1999, the same year it was incorporated.

With its headquarters in Kimbo, Ruiru, Kiambu County, NIBS Technical College has empowered thousands of students from various parts of the country.

Twenty-five years later, the proprietor of the institution, which boasts several constituents across the country, has left a legacy of playing a significant role in contributing to the growth of the education sector.

The matriarch’s curtain fell on Sunday, January 14, 2024, reportedly in the morning.

A few hours before her passing, the educator posted an inspirational message on her official Facebook account.

She quoted a Bible verse from the Book of St. Mark 11:24, which reads, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. May God answer all you have prayed for. Have a wonderful Sunday”.

Born on November 28, 1951, the entrepreneur died at the age of 73.

The family confirmed this through a statement, eulogising her as a remarkable educator who ignited the minds of many through education empowerment.

“In loving memory of a remarkable educator. Her passion ignited minds, her kindness touched hearts. A beacon of wisdom, she left an indelible mark on countless lives, shaping futures with grace,” the family eulogized.

The NIBS director also owned a hotel in Kileleshwa, a suburb estate in Nairobi County.

“Great business lady and a key investor in Kileleshwa (Emory Hotel). On behalf of the Kileleshwa Community, we mourn Lizzie. You did great to make Kileleshwa and Kenya better,” Kileleshwa Ward MCA, Mr Robert Alai, condoled with her family.

The widow left behind three children, namely Wanyoike Mburu, Stella Wanjiru, and Eric Kariuki, who are currently managing and directing their family businesses.
