How to avoid cyber attacks

In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, a recent study by cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has revealed that more than 50 percent of companies are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in business operations.

The findings indicate that more than half of surveyed companies have already implemented these interconnected technologies, with a significant portion planning to adopt them within the next two years.

The study, titled ‘Connecting the future of business,’ surveyed 560 senior IT security leaders across various regions, including North America, Latin America, Europe, Middle East, Turkiye, Africa, Russia, and Asia-Pacific.

The aim was to understand the current utilization and future adoption trends of interconnected technologies, such as AI, IoT, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), digital twins, 6G, converged cloud networks, web 3.0, and data spaces.

Key findings from the research revealed that AI and IoT are the most widely used interconnected technologies, with 54% and 51% of companies already leveraging them, respectively.

In the Middle East, Turkiye, and Africa (META) region, these figures stand at 55% for AI and 44% for IoT.

Moreover, a significant portion of respondents (33%) expressed intentions to integrate AI and IoT into their operations within the next two years, with even higher proportions in the META region (34% for AI and 45% for IoT).

While AI and IoT offer transformative opportunities for enterprises by enabling data gathering and process automation, they also introduce new cybersecurity risks.

Experts emphasize the importance of implementing robust cybersecurity solutions to safeguard business assets and protect customer data in this interconnected environment.

Additionally, the study highlighted growing interest in other interconnected technologies, including digital twins, AR, VR, web 3.0, 6G, and converged cloud networks.

As businesses continue to embrace interconnected technologies to enhance efficiency and competitiveness, cybersecurity remains a paramount concern. Companies must prioritize implementing comprehensive cybersecurity measures to mitigate risks and ensure the secure integration of these technologies into their operations.

According to Kaspersky, below are some of the ways companies can protect themselves from cyberattacks:

Adopt secure-by-design principles

By integrating cybersecurity into each stage of the software development lifecycle, secure-by-design software and hardware become resilient against cyberattacks, contributing to the overall security of digital systems.

Train and upskill your workforce

Building a cyber-aware culture requires a comprehensive strategy that empowers employees to gain knowledge and put it into practice. With Kaspersky Expert training, InfoSec professionals can advance their skills and defend their companies against attacks.

Upgrade your cybersecurity solutions and use centralised and automated platforms such as Kaspersky Extended Detection and Response (XDR).

As companies adopt interconnected technologies, they need cybersecurity solutions with more advanced features, enabling them to collect and correlate telemetry from multiple sources and provide effective threat detection and rapid automated response.

Meet regulations to avoid legal problems or reputational damage, by ensuring your cybersecurity practice meets changing standards and legal requirements.
