Nollywood star celebrates 20th marriage anniversary

A renowned Nollywood star, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her marriage to pilot Matthew Ekeinde.

Omotola Jalade Ekeinde took to her Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, which host a combined 4 million viewers to share the message.

She wrote on Facebook: “And… ‪#‎happyanniversary to us. It is a pleasure experiencing life with you. I might just be the luckiest girl in the World ! Our ‪#‎20yearsmarriageanniversary ‪#‎march23rd ‪#‎thecaptainandI

This message understandably left several of her fans in shock, as most of them had understandably expected the 38 year old Lagos born lady not to have been in marriage for that long.

Omotola married Captain Matthew Ekeinde in 1996, a year after she appeared in her first ever Naija movies “Venom of Justice” and Mortal Inheritance.

NUMEROUS AWARDS

The couple later held a romantic white ceremony on board a dash 7 aircraft while flying from Lagos to Benin in 2001 with close family and friends present. Together they have four children, Princess, MJ, Merairah and Micheal.

Omotola has featured prominently in about 300 movies for the past two decades plus, winning more than 40 awards, while raking in an estimated $500,000 (about Sh 50 million) in appearance fees alone.

In a 2012 interview with a local Nigeria website mjemagazine, Omotola opened up about her marriage and the lessons learnt.

“I know my husband and he knows me and no matter what he reads or hears about me, he only believes what I tell him and when I mess up, he is the first person I tell. That is how open we both are to each other and because in my family there is nothing like divorce,” she said at the time.

Happy Anniversary Omotola!
