Sonko: I’ll knock off speed bumps on Thika Road next week
Motorists using the Nairobi-Thika highway should expect a smoother ride by end of next week.
Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has promised to remove all the speed bumps and rumble strips on the road next Thursday.
The bumps are the cause of tedious traffic jams across the crucial highway. The jam build-up starts as early as 6am with the tailbacks stretching several kilometres
Governor Sonko on Thursday made this promise to remove the bumps during an online interaction with a concerned resident.

In his response, the newly elected governor also took a dig at his predecessor Evans Kidero, whom he accused of not keeping promises.

Justice George Odunga had on February 7 given the Ministry of Transport and the Nairobi City County 60 days to remove the bumps and rumble strips near the Survey of Kenya offices and Kenya breweries plant in Ruaraka.
NO RATIONALE
In his ruling, Judge Odunga said that there was no rationale for erecting rumble strips and bumps yet footbridges were available. He said that the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) was legally obligated to remove the “offending” strips and bumps, and the county mandated with facilitating the process.
The order was issued in a case filed by Mr Sonko in 2015.
