Anti-Counterfeit Authority returns Sh50 million worth of goods to China Square

The Anti-Counterfeit Authority has verified that the wares confiscated from China Square Mall in Nairobi are authentic.

This follows the completion of investigations by the body.

Consequently, the Authority has returned the goods worth Sh50 million.

The Authority further announced the complainant who had raised concerns over the validity of the good at the Mall has withdrawn the case.

“The complainant also requested the release of the goods. In light of this new information, ACA conducted a thorough investigation and verified the source of the goods, and we can confirm that they are authentic Finder Tools. As such, we have released the goods to the rightful owner,” part of the letter reads.

The authority has urged members of the public to be vigilant when purchasing goods to avoid falling victim to counterfeit products.

“We also encourage them to report any suspected cases of counterfeit products to ACA to help protect their rights and interests.”

This comes as the retail shop that was accused by traders of selling goods to Kenyans at cheaper prices remains closed.

Nyamakima traders protested in the streets early this week seeking the attention of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and asking him to protect their businesses from foreigners.

The DP attended assured them of the government’s feedback in the next two weeks.

The move has been addressed by Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria who said that the government will facilitate the Chinese investors to set up a manufacturing plant in the country, rather than competing with local traders to sell goods.

The Chinese government through its Embassy in Kenya asked the Kenyan government to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and citizens.

“We hope that the Kenyan government will protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and Chinese citizens, and create an inclusive and friendly business environment, to better promote China-Kenya practical cooperation and bring benefit to our two countries and two peoples,” the statement reads.
